Renting
There are a few important things to remember when you're thinking of renting:
1. Look into getting renter's insurance. You don't want to lose what you own because of a fire a break in.
2. Choose your roommates wisely. Make sure it's someone you know and trust and don't mind living with. Make sure the terms are laid out in writing such as who will pay what bills, etc. If you move out of town and the only option is to get a roommate that you don't know, make sure you ask them tons of questions and try to get to know them first.
3. Don't go too crazy with decorating and painting. Some places may require you to give the apartment back in the same condition as when you got it.
There are also some questions you should ask and some things to figure out before renting a property:
1. Don't be afraid to ask around about what kind of people live in the building (ex. loud people, etc.)
2. Look at the floor plans.
3. Check the location (ex. near fire, police, etc.)
4. Negotiate the rent, application fee, etc.
5. Check to see if it's month-to-month, yearly lease, etc.
6. What is the amount of the security deposit?
7. What is the fee, if any, to break the lease?
8. Are pets/smoking allowed?
